Bring Your Family to Canada
If you are a Canadian citizen or permanent resident and at least 18 years old, you may be able to sponsor certain family members to come live with you in Canada permanently.
Sponsor your spouse or partner
There are three avenues, depending on your relationship:
- Married — You are legally married, and the marriage is valid both where it took place and under Canadian law.
- Common-law — You have lived together continuously for at least 12 months in a marriage-like relationship.
- Conjugal — You have been in a marriage-like relationship for at least 12 months but could not live together because of serious barriers beyond your control — for example, immigration barriers, cultural or religious reasons, or persecution.
Sponsor your dependent children
You may be able to sponsor your biological or adopted children if they meet the age and dependency requirements.
Sponsor your parents or grandparents
Parents and grandparents can be sponsored through the Parents and Grandparents Program when it opens, or may be eligible for a Super Visa for extended visits.
